A Post Election Saturday Single...
...on Wednesday! Special post election analysis thanks to Andre' Williams. From his new album, Life, it's...well you know. So, now you don't have a previous administration (or Trick's Synthetic Podcast) to blame for everything.

A Killer of a Saturday Single
This week it's the Howlin' Wolf classic, "Killing Floor." Performed by The Electric Flag, one of the first electric horn groups (along with Blood, Sweat, and Tears) and featured Buddy Miles on drums, Nick Gravenites on vocals, Barry Goldberg on keyboards, Harvey Brooks on bass and Michael Bloomfield on lead guitar. This song, from A Long Time Coming, features one of the tightest horn riffs ever...and was quite controversial in it's day because of its spoken lead-in by President Lyndon B. Johnson.
The second version is a more relaxed interpretation by slack key Hawaiian guitarist and blues man, Freddie Roulette who was born and in Evanston, Ill.and learned to play steel guitar in high school. He started playing in clubs around Chicago in his teens, and laterwork in Earl Hooker's band. This tune is from his album, Back In Chicago, with Willie Kent and the Gents !
We think you will agree, this is one "killer" of a Saturday Single~Back to Back from Trick's Synthetic Podcast!

It's A Saturday Single, Back 2 Back...Beatle Break
Forget the vast number of SR employees searching for that perfect selection for the various podcasts, this one came to me in a dream. Last night I was dreaming I was in an oriental country with narrow, twisting alley ways. A guide was showing me the various local delicacies and sights. As I finished eating, the guide skips out on the tab and in an effort to chase them down the alley suddenly opens up to a broad boulevard with a large record store across the street. Glad to see something familiar, this song was playing in my dream! Just as I was entering the store, ready to buy some classic vinyl...the phone rang and woke me up. But this song was still playing in my head. So, enjoy this familiar tune as rendered by Leon Russell and Lisa Ono.

Saturday Single
James Augustus "Catfish" Hunter (April 8, 1946 – September 9, 1999), became the highest paid pitcher in baseball when he signed with the Yankees in 1975. He refused higher offers from the San Diego Padres and the Kansas City Royals to sign with them. He led the league in wins for the two years in a row, and also led the American league in innings pitched and complete games and became only the fourth American League pitcher to win 20 games in a season for five consecutive seasons.
The Yankees won three straight pennants with Hunter from 1976 to 1978. However, the years of arm strain and the effects of diabetes had begun to toll on the pitcher and in 1979, Hunter retired from baseball. James Augustus Hunter died at his home in 1999after he fell down the stairs at home. He had been suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as "Lou Gehrig's Disease."

Here is Albert Castiglia singing about "Catfish" Hunter, the million dollar man, from his album These Are The Days from 2008. Now play ball !

Born James Moore in Lobdell, Louisiana, United States in 1924. He was the eldest in an orphaned family, Slim Harpo began performing in Baton Rouge bars under the name Harmonica Slim and later accompanied his brother-in-law, Lightnin' Slim, both live and in the studio. Notable covers of Slim Harpo songs include "I Got Love If You Want It," by The Kinks, "I'm A King Bee," by The Rolling Stones, the Grateful Dead and The Doors, and "Don't Start Crying Now," by Them, with Van Morrison. Never a full-time musician, Harpo had his own trucking business during the 1960s. He died following a heart attack in 1970.

From the one and only Slim Harpo, recorded in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, it's Cigarettes, on Trick's Synthetic Podccast!
