Al Hear This
Here's the story of how Al Kooper became session man # 1
Al Kooper became warmly acquainted with Columbia producer Tom Wilson. When Bob Dylan was in studio, Tom asked Al to come and watch. Kooper, brought his guitar, but when he saw Michael Bloomfield there he put it away, and was ready to be just an observant. Before things got going, he sat down at the organ, and was almost thrown out, when Dylan interceded on his behalf, giving Kooper the chance to play the now famous organ riff captured on the Mega Mega hit, "Like a Rolling Stone." Al's riff is an eighth note behind the other players, as Al was following the chord progressions of the other players!
Here is AL as "Session Man No.1"
